One of my least favorite chores is cleaning the microwave… it’s been a task that I’ve never enjoyed. Scrubbing off the grime and caked-on food inside is not fun It takes quite a bit of elbow grease and I never really feel like I can get it really clean!

There are some pretty powerful houshold cleaners that can be used, but I hesitate to use them because of the chemicals that are in the cleaners. Especially in the microwave– I always think about the fact that a small amount of chemicals are likely left behind after the cleaning is done, and those may be cooked into the food when the microwave is turned on! Ick!

So, instead of using cleaners in my microwave, I found a natural solution… using essential oils of course! Here’s how I do it:

Directions:

In a glass, microwavable bowl add 1/2 cup water, 1 teaspoon of vinegar, and 10 drops of lemon essential oil. Turn on the microwave on “high” for four minutes. When the four minutes are done, don’t open the microwave yet… allow the door to stay closed for a few more minutes. Keeping the door shut allows the moisture/steam to stay inside, softening up the food that may be caked on the top and the sides.

Next, open the microwave and remove the bowl, and use a wet rag to wipe everything down. It is much easier to wipe away any food particles that may be in there, because the vinear mixture makes it so that it can simply be wiped away. No more elbow grease when it comes time to clean the microwave!

With love,

Becki :)
