Cassia is an herb that is very similar to cinnamon. It originated in China where it was used for centuries as an herbal medicine. This essential oil is generally created from twigs, dry bark, and tree leaves. Since the tree that it is grown on is so similar to cinnamon trees it gives off a very similar aroma. The only difference is that the scent isn’t quite as strong. The bark of the tree is widely used in baked foods, curries, and candies.
Antifungal, antiviral, antibacterial, astringent, disinfectant, antibiotic, stimulant, anti-diarrhea, and antispasmodic.
This oil can provide support to other blends in small quantities. Cassia may also be sensitizing to dermal tissues.
Topically- Mix 1 drop oil with 4 drops carrier oil, apply topically to muscles, forehead, reflex points, and location of concern. This oil may irritate skin so do not apply directly without dilution. It is not suggested to use this essential oil with young children.
Internally- Mix 1 drop oil with an 8oz glass of beverage, drink. A little sweetener can be added if you prefer.
Aromatically- Use in a diffuser, inhale deeply, or may be used as a perfume.
Cassia has been used medicinally for colic, flatulent dyspepsia, colds and flu, stomach ache, rheumatism, diarrhea, constipation, arthritic pain, reproductive complaints, circulation, and kidneys. It was also used frequently as a domestic spice.
